Our Cape Town to Windhoek tour, changed on request, to a Namibia loop ride, starting and ending in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia.
This allowed us to experience a bit of the Kalahari, which we normally don't get to explore on the Desert Run tour. It also contributed to adrenalin pumping sand riding, wide eyed participants and plenty of beer to calm the nerves... or rather celebrate the achievement!
From Fish River Canyon we joined our standard route, which runs around the canyon towards Aus and Luderitz. Then Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Khorixas,
After a dip in the rather fast flowing river, we head west to get to the western side of the canyon, and finally north towards Aus.
Another great riding day!
We visit the ghost town of Kolmanskop (Komannskuppe), a few kilometers inland from the coastal town of Luderitz, built during the diamond rush, before World War I.
Probably the hardest riding day of the tour. 380km of loose gravel, sand and corrugated roads. But also the most scenic of them all, as we make our way from Aus to Sossusvlei.
We spend a day at Sossusvlei. Well known for Dead Vlei (Dead Marsh) and its dead camel thorn trees, the big dunes reaching heights of 300-400 meters, as well as Sossusvlei pan itself.
A day off at Swakopmund, a city by the sea, rich in German colonial architecture. These days a beach resort for mainly Namibians.
