It is the perfect spot: the Country Trax weekend training facility at Njalo-Njalo Safaris, Touws River. I cannot imagine a better place to practice skills and enhance riding capabilities. The farm offers a great selection of dirt roads; hard-packed gravel, sand, clay, rocks and the occasional challenge of finding yourself in a shrub, after misjudging a muddy turn.
Viewing game on the go is a bonus! Only an adventure motorcyclist would be able to understand that indescribable feeling of standing up while riding, in that golden hour before sunset, observing wildlife.
I am always amazed by how much an already experienced rider can learn from the Country Trax courses. Once again I realised, you are never too wise to learn.
Whether it’s acquiring a new skill or shaking off a bad habit, these courses are designed to transform experienced riders into better, safer and slightly more daring cyclists. It comes with extra, well-deserved confidence.
Yes, it’s fun all day, but make no mistake it’s hard work acquiring the technical skills. Johan drills it into you, over and over. At some stage, you can’t help but wonder: “Why is he teaching us all this… stuff?”
And then you go out on the farm… whoa! All of sudden everything makes sense and falls into place. All the skills you’ve acquired come naturally and the ride is so much more fun! Even sand riding with the 1200gs, a previous palm-sweating event, now became fun! Many thanks to Andre, our host, and Johan and Leon from Country Trax for a fantastic weekend.
Johan fixes the first puncture on arrival already! And then he teaches us how to look cool.

Keep that throttle open, weight to the back.

Look where you want to go, the bike will follow.
What goes up must come down. Hill ascending and descending.
Can’t complain too much about the facility – practicing amongst game like Gemsbok.
The sand monster. Don’t look down, don’t look down, the bike will follow!
