ICELAND FIRE & ICE | 13 days ALL ROAD |
Join UpSouth Adventures on an extraordinary all-road journey of adventure biking, exploration, excitement and camaraderie, as we ride the challenging routes of the breathtaking landscapes of Iceland, in partnership with Explore 360 Degrees. Food for the soul!
We leave the tarmac behind and explore not only the more known highlights, but also the desolate highlands of inner Iceland.
Riding a motorcycle through Iceland is like an expedition through different landscapes, which is truly unique in Europe. An overwhelming environment that is dominated by glaciers, waterfalls, volcanoes, black lava desert, wild rivers, hot springs and rainbow coloured mountains.

ABOUT ICELAND
Iceland is volcanic, the landscape varies enormously and has astonishing views! It is no coincidence that so many films like Prometheus, Tomb Raider, Die Another Day, and Batman Begins have been shot in this magical place.
With a surface of 103,000 km2 and only 319,000 inhabitants, of whom 200,000 live in Reykjavik and its surroundings, there is plenty of room to explore this enchanting country.
Europe’s largest glacier is on Iceland: Vatnajökull, which measures 8100 km2, and also Europe’s largest waterfall, Dettifoss (in volume). We will combine fantastic motorcycle riding with these magnificent nature experiences!
Iceland has only a short motorcycle season, which starts in July and ends in early September. Not only in terms of temperature, but also with regards to the likelihood of gravel roads in the highlands being open and passable. Summer in Iceland means long days and short nights. Rain, strong winds and even snow could be part of our adventure when we drive in the mountains in the interior of Iceland. With active volcanoes, massive glaciers, vast lava deserts, countless waterfalls, exquisite scenery and fantastic off-road routes, Iceland has everything the adventurous motorcyclist wishes for!
From the green rolling hills in the North, the fairytale coloured Rhyolite mountains of Landmannalaugar, to the many impressive waterfalls, like Dettifoss, Gullfoss and Godafoss…We will cross Iceland twice through its interior and its desolate lava-deserts and snow capped glaciers to experience all sides that Iceland has to offer. This is only possible by a 4WD car or an adventure motorcycle.Regardless the choice of routes we will of course see some of the highlights which Iceland is known for like Vatnajökull, Dettifoss, Reykjavik, Geysir, Gullfoss, lake Myvatn and whale watching in Husavik.
The roads we will drive offer a great variety, they can be challenging but lead us to some extraordinary scenery! The majority will be on good, well-prepared gravel roads but the road surface can be anything from tarmac to stones to lava sand. The rivers that run through Iceland’s interior are mostly not bridged which means we’ll have to drive through them. Depending on the water level it will be a small or a big challenge, but always a special experience!
We’ll have a support vehicle with a trailer for your luggage, food, 1st aid equipment and tools etc. Meaning more fun while riding!
You can drive at your own tempo, take an alternative route (when available) or drive together with the tour guide, that’s up to you. During the day we will have enough time to take pictures and coffee breaks while enjoying the magnificent views.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD
During the Iceland Experience we’ll stay at different types of accommodation, which will include hostels, guesthouses, cabins and mountain-huts.
Because there are no hotels, fuel stations or restaurants in Iceland’s interior we’ll bring our own sleeping bags, and food to cook ourselves. The mountain cabins are well equipped and some of them have a “hot-spring” (natural warm water well) where you can relax and enjoy after a long day in the saddle.
When staying at hostels and cabins we create a common “food-pot” or “kitty” for food and drinks and we will prepare dinner & breakfast ourselves (when needed). Breakfast is included when staying in guesthouses/hostels when available.
Only sharing accommodation available.
Guesthouses/Lodges: Rooms of 2 – 4 people.
Cabins/Mountain Huts: Rooms of 4 – 12 people.
Single rooms available the first and last night in Reykjavik at an additional € 300.
